When it happened
Last summer, I was visiting my ancestral place in Kolkata after a long gap. To mark the occasion, we decided to go on a day-trip to someplace on the outskirts of the city. One of my cousins had heard about this place where they supposedly served amazing north-Indian cuisine, so we all decided to visit this place.
What happened
After an hour-and-a-half, and after much effort, we finally reached the resort. However, to our utter dismay, the place appeared shabby and dilapidated. It was nothing like we had imagined. None of us knew exactly what to do. It is then that I used my cellphone to find another resort in the vicinity. I did a thorough search of the area, read the reviews and found out about a resort on the banks of the river Ganges.
How important the cellphone/smartphone was
Once I showed the pictures of the resort on my cellphone to others, everybody agreed that we should go to that resort. I used my cellphone to navigate the way and within a few minutes we reached the resort. The moment we set foot at the resort, everybody clapped in glee as the place was amazing.
Explain how you felt about the experience
On that occasion, the smartphone came handy as otherwise we would not have been able to locate such a wonderful resort within such a short span of time. We spent a wonderful day by the banks of the river Ganges. The resort had fabulous grounds and a garden area with a multicuisine restaurant as well, and we all had a great time.

What happened?
My college had organised a competition, and I was given the task of maintaining a detailed sheet. It included the events happening, participant details, guests, lecturers, and other important arrangements. This sheet had to be sent to the authorised member responsible for further preparations. I had prepared everything in an Excel sheet on my laptop, which was thankfully connected to my Microsoft (MS) account.
However, due to immense pressure and multiple responsibilities, I forgot to send the sheet. I only realised this when the authorised member called me while I was out for some other competition-related work.
When did it happen?
This happened during my college days, when I was involved in organising a major competition. A day before (during final preparations), while I was outside in a crowded market handling other arrangements, I received the urgent call.
How important was the cellphone/smartphone?
My cellphone was a lifesaver in that moment. I had previously installed the MS Office app on it and linked it to my MS account. So I was able to quickly open the Excel sheet from the cloud, make sure everything was in order, and send it directly from my phone — all in just 5 minutes. Without my smartphone, I wouldn’t have been able to access the file or complete the task in time.
And explain how you felt about the experience?
At first, I was in shock and panic — I couldn’t believe I had forgotten such an important task. I even started blabbering to myself out of anxiety. But once I remembered the phone and managed to send the file, I felt so relieved and happy. The member appreciated it and sent a message thanking me. That small moment felt incredibly thrilling and satisfying. I even started laughing afterwards, thinking about how such a critical situation was handled because of my phone. It was a proud and unforgettable experience, especially since the event was tied to the reputation of our college.

What happened and when it happened?
Nowadays almost everyone is glued to their smartphones, making it seem like an extension of our bodies. I used to detest this about everyone around me and even considered becoming old-school and switching back to a smaller cell phone with just the calling feature. However, in March 2024, I got a reality check and realized how important a smartphone can be. I was out with my friends when a client from work called me up for an extremely urgent work. Even after multiple attempts to explain to them how I couldn’t possibly do it as I was out of my house, they were insistent due to the emergency they were facing.
How important the cellphone/smartphone was
It was my smartphone that ultimately saved their day and mine surely. I quickly downloaded an application on my phone after searching for the best video editor. I edited a video for my client and then quickly sent it across. That day my smartphone helped me gain some internal appreciation as well from my work team.
And explain how you felt about the experience
This all led me to realize that if I had shifted to a cell phone, my boss would have thought that I wasn’t capable of handling emergencies and my client would have also lost out on presenting well for their company executives. Since then, I’ve become a bit more grateful for this technology.
