Who is he/she
My neighbour is a young guy working in the State Bank of India. He is originally from Shillong but now lives here in Delhi. This is his first job and he is living away from home for the first time in his life. I often go to his home and chat away for hours since we are almost of the same age with similar interests.
How do you know him/her
He shifted to the apartment beside ours last winter and required help in unloading his things. That’s when we were introduced to each other. Very soon we became pals and started spending time together.
What do you do together
Since he lives alone, these days we often cook together. We are both amateurs at cooking so the dishes do not always turn out as desired but the fun of cooking together makes up for it. Sometimes we go out clubbing or bowling. We both love to watch live games, especially cricket, so if time permits, we also go to the stadiums to watch these games.
And explain why do you find him/her interesting
I find him quite fascinating as he is a passionate sportsperson and plays badminton and carom expertly. He is also good with numbers and I often seek his help when I get stuck in mathematics. He is also quite well read and has amazing communication skills. I try to emulate him while communicating in public.

We had an interesting neighbour when we used to live in Chandigarh, he used to live next to our house there.
Who is he/she?
He was a school-going student studying in the 12th standard at that time by the name Praveen. He also had an elder sister who constantly told him to study and decide on a university.
How you knew him/her?
Other than being neighbours, we used to go to the same school on the same bus, but he was always late for his bus.
What do you do together?
I sometimes went to his elder sister to study as she was in a reputed university, and he also had an expensive game station. After finishing my studies, we used to play together.
And explain why he/she is interesting?
Parveen was an interesting guy as he was a gifted student as he used to roam around with his friends even during exams and no one has ever seen him study but he always used to score above average in every school exam and even scored highest in 12th standard within the cluster of our school and got into a good university.

I moved into my current apartment around 2 years ago. Around 2-3 months after that, I met one of my neighbors from the same block while I was in the elevator. I usually always have my earphones plugged in so I am pretty oblivious to what’s going around. However, this particular lady tapped me on my shoulder so I’d listen to her, and all she said to me was, “Ignorance is indeed bliss because you seem so blissful while ignoring the world around you.” And I just laughed at her quirk and that just broke the ice. Since then, almost every weekend, we go out for a walk together in a park adjacent to where we reside.
And explain why he/she is interesting
It took me a few meetings with her to realize that she has an amazing sense of humor but not because of how funny she is with it, but because of how intelligent her humor is. She manages to always crack a joke while parallely making some commentary on the state of the government or the environment in today’s time. I think that’s an admirable quality and I find it extremely interesting. Now whenever I see her, I just keep wondering what clever joke she might be thinking of in her head.

What happened and when it happened?
Nowadays almost everyone is glued to their smartphones, making it seem like an extension of our bodies. I used to detest this about everyone around me and even considered becoming old-school and switching back to a smaller cell phone with just the calling feature. However, in March 2024, I got a reality check and realized how important a smartphone can be. I was out with my friends when a client from work called me up for an extremely urgent work. Even after multiple attempts to explain to them how I couldn’t possibly do it as I was out of my house, they were insistent due to the emergency they were facing.
How important the cellphone/smartphone was
It was my smartphone that ultimately saved their day and mine surely. I quickly downloaded an application on my phone after searching for the best video editor. I edited a video for my client and then quickly sent it across. That day my smartphone helped me gain some internal appreciation as well from my work team.
And explain how you felt about the experience
This all led me to realize that if I had shifted to a cell phone, my boss would have thought that I wasn’t capable of handling emergencies and my client would have also lost out on presenting well for their company executives. Since then, I’ve become a bit more grateful for this technology.
