So I would like to talk about my college friend Maria James, who basically belongs to Nigeria. She had come to Delhi, India to do graduation here. So she resided in Delhi for almost 3 years.
How he/she learns hindi?
Well, after realising that living in a foreign place where one does not know the native language becomes very difficult practically. So she decided to take up a full fledged Hindi language course from an institute to become comfortable with the place. Rest whenever she tried to converse with us in Hindi we used to rectify her and help her with the same.
And explain why he can speak Hindi well.
After communicating in Hindi and speaking it all day round, whether it is with the rickshaw-puller or buying groceries, or even while talking to the neighbours. She attained mastery over the language. Her Hindi classes helped her to build the base and we made her practice in our everyday communication. Thus, she became very fluent in speaking.

Who this person is
Often the use of a second language while visiting another country for work or leisure becomes very important. Inability to speak or understand the native language can prove to be a huge obstacle. This was the case with my neighbour who lives in the next apartment. Her name is Charlotte and she is from France. She is here on a professional assignment
Where he/she is from
Charlotte is a French national from Paris and is here in India working as liason officer. Given the nature of her work she often has to communicate with local officials in Hindi. Due to the language barrier she had been facing numerous obstacles in fulfilling her work assignments.
How he/she learns the language
I have known Charlotte since the past two years and I must say she is a fast learner. She picked up the language by speaking in broken words with me as well as locals in Hindi. She also joined a local language club and now knows how to both read and speak fairly well. She is yet to pick up the writing skills but I’m sure she will do so soon.
And explain why he can speak the language well
Mastering an alien language can be a challenge for most people. However Charlotte picked up the language in record time. This is due to her dedication and commitment towards her work. Although classroom learning provided her with all the necessary foundations but soaking in the essence of the language, as well as the nuances in the cultural context behind certain phrases, speaks volumes about her genuine passion for the language.
