I distinctly remember, I was late at the school Bal Ramayana, which is a play of Lord Ram’s life story. It is annually conducted before the Diwali break. It was going to begin in the evening, at 5:30. I had the lead role in that play. If I would not have arrived the play would not have started.
Why were you late?
Though, I was dressed in costumes and ready with make-up an hour before the play. There were so many things I had to wear, there was a heavy wig, earrings, bracelets, amulets and a bow and arrow to carry. Everything was going well, until the last moment I came across that I was not able to locate my wig, and without that I would not have appeared to be complete. It was then I panicked, and my parents began searching the entire home, and an hour passed, no one was able to find it. It was then my mother checked my school bag, and she found the wig was in it. Thank god, I did not face any beatings for it, because we were then rushing for school.
How you felt about being late and explain how you managed the situation.
I reached 10 minutes late, and all the guests, school principal were waiting for the play to start. It was the first and last time I was ever late to school. My teachers scolded me. This turned out to be a lifelong lesson for me. That day I was saved because I performed well.

When was it ?
While there have been several occasions when I have been late but there is one particular day which caused a lot of problems due to my delay in arrival.
What happened on that day?
On that particular day I was supposed to catch a train to Kolkata and I was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. The central train station is quite far from my place so I started in good time. My train was at 4.55 pm and I started from home at around 2 pm. At first we covered more than half of the distance in proper time with ample time to spare. However, as we neared the station and was just about 3 kms away, we were met with an unprecedented traffic jam. At first I thought the traffic lights are not working however soon it was clear there must be some other reason for the bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Soon I and my driver got down to find out the reason for the jam-packed traffic. That’s when we saw the huge procession ahead. It was a religious congregation celebrating their special day. The procession moved at a very slow pace and it was impossible to bypass them. After a long wait of 45 minutes we managed to move ahead and raced to the station. We only had 5 minutes to reach the designated platform and board the train. We rushed through the crowded station but missed the train by a whisker.
What consequences did you face due to the delay ?
I was scheduled to join the wedding of my friend from university in Kolkata. As I missed the train I could not reach on time for the wedding celebrations and only attended the reception the day after.
