Shopping is now one of the most popular forms of leisure activity in many countries for young adults.
Why is this? Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?
People work hard to enjoy their lives according to their own will. And shopping is turning out to be the most popular forms of leisure activities, mainly for young adults. According to a survey, an average adults spend around $161-$201 per month on clothing.
The main reason for the amplifying trend of shopping in adults is the ‘social acceptance’. People always want to update their wardrobe with the ‘in’ fashion. The companies also keep coming up with the latest offers on the various items, which attracts the consumer to buy more and gain satisfaction. In economic terms, a consumer is defined to be rational, that is, he buys the things which he feels, gives him maximum satisfaction and gratitude.
It has both positive and negative impacts on the development of a country. By growing demand of products, the country will earn more revenue and people will live lavish lives. However, due to the growing comparison, the people of the country might feel depressed and be gloomed about the fact that they cannot buy the most fashionable products in the market. This could lead them to illicit crimes such as robbery to be able to buy the high priced products and qualify the status symbol. This encourages the gap between the rich and the poor, which further affects the harmony and brother hood in the nation.
At the end, I would like to suggest that the young adults shall be taught the right place to invest their hard earned money and not let it get wasted in the light of ‘social acceptance’ .
