Intro

Doing something difficult and challenging can be very intimidating. Getting out of your comfort zone and pushing beyond our boundaries can make us feel both scared and excited. One difficult thing that I did was learn to cook on my own.

What it was?

Cooking can be a daunting task for beginners, especially if you’ve never cooked before. From understanding the terminology to knowing what ingredients to use, it’s all quite overwhelming. Despite the struggles, I still decided to try and learn to cook.

How did you complete it?

I started small by reading cookbooks and browsing the Internet to acquire basic knowledge. I further studied ingredients and ingredients combinations that could be used to create delicious dishes. After learning some basics, I decided to start with small, simple dishes. This way I wouldn’t be overwhelmed with the process or the complexity of the dishes. I started with easy dishes such as fried rice, grilled vegetables, and basic salads.

Why was it difficult?

One of the main difficulties I faced was the amount of patience I had to put in. It took me a long time to master the basic techniques and to understand the complexities of flavors. It also took me a long time to get used to the actual cooking process. Knowing where and how to season the dish plus making sure that the vegetables and meats were cooked correctly was hard.

How you felt

I was very proud of myself when I finally mastered the basics of cooking. Though it was a difficult journey, it gave me a sense of accomplishment. Learning to cook on my own brought me closer to understanding the flavors, textures, and aromas of delicious cuisine.

Conclusion

Cooking was a difficult thing that I did because I had to make sure that I was paying attention to all the small things. However, the feeling of accomplishment that I got once I was able to do it was amazing and it certainly made me more confident in my cooking.

Intro

Learning to drive was a significant milestone in my life. As a young adult, I knew that I had to learn to drive in order to become independent and gain the freedom that comes with it.

What it was?

Driving was something I had to learn in order to become independent, and have the freedom to go wherever I wanted. I was pretty old when I decided to learn, so it was even more difficult for me as I had no prior experience. I knew I had to do this in order to make it on my own, however I had to take a leap of faith.

How did you complete it?

I decided to take on the challenge of teaching myself how to drive, so I purchased a used car. I then spent many hours practicing in an empty parking lot, as well as on some empty roads. As I got more confident in driving I started going out on quiet roads at night when nobody was around to practice my skills.

Why was it difficult?

Learning to drive was difficult because there were many challenging obstacles that I had to face. As a beginner, I had to learn the basics like how to change gears, accelerate, brake, and check my mirrors. On top of that, driving had a certain level of risk that I had to be wary of. Not to mention, it was pretty nerve-wracking driving all alone without an instructor or anyone there to help me.

How you felt

Learning to drive was a tough challenge that took me a while to get used to. However, after I became more confident I eventually got the hang of it. While I was scared at first, I was proud of myself for facing my fears and learning how to drive. This was something I never thought I would be able to do, and coming out the other side a confident driver made me feel accomplished.

Conclusion

In the end, learning to drive was a difficult thing I did but I’m glad I did it. I knew I needed to do it in order to become independent, and having the freedom to go wherever I want made it worthwhile. Despite it being daunting, it was a valuable experience that I’m grateful for now.
