Who is the person ?

I have a next door neighbour who is highly creative and paints very well. She excels at miniature artwork and makes these exquisite handmade coasters and bookmarks. Also, whenever she finds any broken glass or ceramic items she invariably glues them back together and makes these beautiful pots or wall art pieces.

What things does he/she make ?

By profession she is a geography teacher but she also teaches art to young students in her free time. She makes both cardboard and ceramic coasters. These are handy and waterproof and looks wonderful when placed on dining or coffee tables. Additionally she also paints on cloth mats to match the crockery and the décor of the room.

Explain if the items are useful

She has made several pieces for her neighbours, friends and family members. I too have a few pieces which were exclusively made to match the crockery at my home. The coasters and mats are intricately painted with beautiful flower motifs in vibrant colours. Whenever I use it during dinner parties or special occasions my guests are curious to know where I procured it from. The items are washable and extremely useful.

What was the task ?

Challenges are a part and parcel of life. To overcome them, one has to put in their best efforts and hard work.

The only task I encountered which was difficult was learning a different language and coping up with it. First it was very hard to actually understand and then to speak.

What difficulties did you encounter?

I like to learn new languages as it helps me when I am traveling. It is easier to communicate with others in their language. So, a few years back when I went to study in the Philippines, I learned some words, even their slang is similar in my home country. Even the words are quite similar so I can understand them easily but when it comes to writing or reading I struggle a lot. Even sometimes the words are the same with my language but their meaning is different.

Were you successful ?

Since I was a student there it was easier for me to enroll in language classes and make new friends with Filipinos which helped me to understand and I did a lot of online practice. As I knew, during my clerkship this will definitely help me when I will be communicating with people over there. And finally I somehow did my best to understand their language .
