Who he/she is?
India is a vast country and has a diverse culture. Each state is different from the other in their attire, food and the languages they speak. I have a friend named Eva in college who is from the north-east state of Meghalaya.
Where he/she is from ?
Meghalaya is a small state with Shillong as it’s capital. The place she comes from is very different to the mainland of the country. Their food habits and language she speaks has no similarity to Hindi. Also, I was amazed to learn that they have a matriarchal society there and women are heralded as the head of the family and is the primary bread-winner.
How you know her ?
While I am in the Commerce department she is in the Arts stream. Last year during college fest we met for the first time during a drama rehearsal. We soon became friends as we had shared interests and enjoyed doing the same things.
And explain how you feel about him/her.
She has a pleasant personality and I enjoy her company immensely. Although we have entirely different upbringing yet we gel very well. We have long discussions on multiple topics and I like interacting with her.
It is from her that I have learnt so much about the north east of India and its varied culture. As somebody from the mainland I had no understanding of that part of the country – its diverse and rich traditions, food, music and their sensibilities.
