What is it?
My country is home to many plants. A wide variety is found in different regions. I would like to speak about a small, yet widely popular plant called Tulsi in my local language. I do not know the biological name of this plant.
Why do you think it is important?
Well, this plant is grown widely across the country and is found in almost all the places which has several medicinal properties and is also considered as Holy by the Hindu people of India.
Where is it found?
It is grown across the country as it is a small plant and does not require any weather for its survival. It adapts itself to any type of climate and as such it is quite popular. It can be found in independent houses where it is an essential part of every kitchen garden and even people living in apartments grow it on their balconies.

Which plant is it ?
The Tulsi plant or the holy basil is one of the most popular plants grown in almost every household in India. It is mostly grown for religious reasons as it is extensively used while performing the different rituals in Hindu culture.
What are its uses ?
Additionally it is also used for medicinal purposes. It can effectively cure common diseases like cough, cold, fever and other ailments like kidney stones and skin diseases. Further, it is used in face packs and as herbs in cooking various recipes. It is often used in place of the Italian basil while cooking pasta or as toppings on pizza.
Why is it so popular in your country?
Tulsi is a perennial plant and requires very little care and therefore people prefer to have a small plant at home or beside their workstations given its religious significance. It is considered to be a sacred plant and it symbolises purity and prosperity. Apart from its ritualistic uses, it is one of the potent ingredients used in Ayurvedic medicine. Also a leaf of Tulsi in a hot cup of tea is supposed to relieve stress.
