Last summer I was visiting my Aunt in Dehradun. My aunt has a young daughter who is still in primary school. For her summer project she was asked to make table mats using paints and then she had to laminate it.
What was the thing ?
It was summers and there was not much to do. We went hiking now and then but largely the days would be long and a bit boring. I thought of spending this time creatively and teach my young cousin abstract painting. I was taught this kind of art in school and thought it would be ideal for making the table mats she was asked to make for her school project.
In what way did you help the younger person?
We first used paints to colour the threads but we could not do so in bulk as the paint on the threads would dry up very quick. In this kind of art, paint-wet threads are used and arranged it in the desired pattern and then the thread is pulled after pressing it down with paper. We painstakingly covered each of the mats with colourful abstract designs. The whole task took about fifteen days but at the end we were immensely satisfied with our work and had it laminated. My cousin’s mats were very different to other students and she seemed very happy with the outcome.

It feels great to teach young minds. I feel overwhelmed when I help someone younger than me to figure out something that is important to learn. Back in time, it was my younger brother who is a teenager now. It was when he started schooling. I taught him to read books at an early age.
What was the thing ?
As I said I helped him in reading story books. Reading has been an important part of my life. I realised it helps us understand the outer world and outer thoughts that you hardly find around yourself.
He is an avid reader.. His understanding of concepts and knowledge is commendable. He would spend hours reading. He has improved his concentration levels. He understands the idea of books better these days.
In what way did you help the younger person?
I feel absolutely great. It was something I took as a responsibility to teach my brother. He has got a huge advantage of it as he is able to crack the interview for armed forces school. His knowledge from books has given him more content.
