Where was it?
Once, a very unusual thing happened to me. I was traveling with my husband and on our way we stopped for tea. Where we were sitting, there I saw a bag full of clothes just lying down. I asked the shopkeeper to keep it aside to which he replied there were clothes in it and someone just randomly left it, so he will throw them away.

When was it picked up?
I thought for good 10-15 minutes while drinking tea, then I finally decided to take that bag with me and on our way there was a slum area so I decided to give it there. I asked my husband too if it was a good idea to do so. Rather than just throwing it away, I wanted to give it to the ones who really need it more than anyone else.

What did you do after you picked it up?
We headed back and on our way we got down at the slum area that I knew and distributed those clothes amongst the needy people there. Though I gave it a thought earlier, I decided that there is nothing better than helping someone in need.

How did you feel?
I felt a little low at first as when I see how people do not even have clothes to wear or food to it, I feel sad but then that is the harsh reality. I felt better when I saw those smiling faces after they got clothes. Though they were not mine, I still gave it to them as just throwing them away is not an option that some people find convenient. It hardly takes a few minutes to bring smiles on someone’s face.

What was it ?
I was at my neighbours the other day and I noticed that they had piled up a few items that they wanted to discard. In the pile there was a tall white vase too, which had developed a crack.

Why did you decide to pick it up ?
I requested my neighbour not to throw the item and instead to give it to me. I have always been interested in art and craft and try my hand at different things. So I took the vase and first repaired it and then painted on it.

In what way did you make use of it ?
I first drew a pencil sketch and then gradually filled in the different shades. Once I had sprayed it with glitters it appeared completely new. It matched perfectly with my décor. The other day when my neighbour visited my place she asked me from where I bought the piece. I burst out laughing !

What skill did you learn?
Learning different skills is an important part of life. It helps in umpteen ways. One skill that I learnt in my childhood is the skill of active communication. This skill was taught to me by my father.

When did you learn the skill?
I learnt this skill when I was around 11 years old. Since I was a shy and quiet child, my father always encouraged me to talk to people in social settings. Due to this encouragement I was able to slowly open up to people and make relationships and friendship connections

How did you practice and develop this skill?
Upon becoming slightly more vocal I started to put myself in situations that I felt were uncomfortable and out of my comfort zone at the time. I tried to speak to as make people as I could and learn about them.

Why do you think it’s essential to learn such skills?
It is very essential to learn such skills, even though they may not seem very relevant, in today’s time making social relations is extremely important. As I started attending college I learnt to make good relationships with teachers and fellow  students and realized how significant it is to have like minded people around you.
