IELTS Speaking Test 27th November Part 1| Describe a toy you liked in your childhood

I am currently working part-time as a video editor to elevate my skillset for my career later.

I reside in a crowded locality. There is hardly a quiet moment due to the bustling streets surrounding my residence.

It honestly depends on my mood or the activity I plan to do. For instance, a popular flea market in Sarojini Nagar, Delhi is one of my favorite shopping spots. It’s probably one of the most crowded places I have ever visited yet I’d never say no to rushing for a bargain-filled shopping spree there.

The major benefit of a crowded place is that such places have many amenities in the area to cater to the huge crowds. However, most other things are disadvantages because in a country like India, large crowds can lead to stampedes within seconds. Hence, the biggest disadvantage is definitely the risk of injury.

It’s been a long while since I visited an extremely crowded place. It was probably back in 2016 when I had attended a music concert.

I usually prefer wearing sneakers for casual hangouts or running errands. Otherwise I often wear short heels for formal or official occasions.

If the shoes are not comfortable, I would not be able to wear them even if my life depended on it. So, I definitely prefer comfortable shoes over fashionable ones.

Oh, absolutely. I own a pair of heels that is my go-to footwear for almost every occasion. It has great cushioning and pairs well with almost all outfits because the color combination is navy blue and dark brown.

Infrequently. I am not a fan of shopping often and I also hate fast fashion. So, I shop for shoes only when it is a necessity like if my main footwear has worn out.

There’s a local footwear chain store in close proximity to my apartment. I usually purchase all my shoes from there because of the geographic convenience.

I was raised by parents who used to be quite miserly when I was a child. Yet I vividly remember that when I was about 6 years old, I had raised hell trying to convince my father to buy a doll for me that came with its baby stroller and four dresses to change into. All the tantrums from his six-year-old made my father give in because he bought that doll for me within two days, that too with additional props like a milk bottle. When I first saw the doll I was so mesmerized by it that I took it along with me everywhere, despite its heavy size. It had the prettiest orange curly hair and was not tiny or skinny like Barbie dolls. This doll was almost the size of a human toddler. I think I liked it most because I started feeling that it was my younger sister. I grew so attached to it that I would dress it up, feed it with its bottle, and take it out on strolls in its babystroller. All of this seems quite hilarious to me now but it was a priced possession of mine for almost 6 years. I’m glad I had such a toy as a child because that doll is definitely a part of my fondest memories from that age.

Toys are a major catalyst for sensory development in children. Tactile tools are important to help children form an understanding of the world and the use of their senses but toys also help in behavioral aspects like how a child organizes their toys, takes care of their toys, or happily shares their toys with other children.

Today’s kids definitely have an entirely different category of toys. When I was a kid, the toys were mostly educational and simpler. Today, even toddlers play with kid-friendly gadgets. Gadgets in my time were block sets. Of course, digital progress has seeped into all stages of life so it makes sense that this shift has occurred.

I think there has to be a balance. Nowadays, almost every family has two working parents so it is difficult for parents to be energetic and play around with their kids. In such cases, toys are essential to keep children occupied when the parents are home but exhausted. That being said, nothing can replace quality time between parents and their kids so parents also need to manage their time and be with their kids, even if it is to play with them with those toys itself.
