IELTS Speaking Test 4th November | Describe a place you visited that you first saw on social media.

I'm currently working at a private digital marketing organization.

Yes, I usually carry home-cooked meals whenever I’m travelling because I try to avoid food from unknown vendors.

I think apart from food and their mobile phones, most people carry money with them while travelling. Some people also carry essentials like basic toiletries and spare clothes according to the duration of their travel.

I think while travelling, smartphones are definitely one of the most important things to take along since travel plans begin on most people’s smartphones and are successful through use of online maps and digital payments during the trip.

Earlier people used to travel majorly in groups and made bookings quite ahead of time but nowadays with travel blogging and economical last-minute deals available, most people go on solo trips or spontaneous trips more often.

I carry a small amount of cash when I travel for emergencies. Otherwise I rely majorly on online banking. Though, if I know I’d be in an area with no internet connection, then I carry more cash with me.

I think online banking is pretty indispensable these days because it makes people feel safer especially while travelling because there’s no risk of theft. Plus, in most regions, online payments are accepted so it is quite convenient as well.

Where was the place and why did you go there?

I follow some food vloggers on Instagram because I’m always on the lookout for new places to try out my favorite dishes. Momo is one of those dishes. I was randomly scrolling through Instagram last week and I came across a momo outlet called Chimney in South Delhi. Looking at the video, I immediately decided to visit the place and went the very next day.

What was it like?

It wasn’t a fancy or grand place. It was a small outlet with around six tables for customers. It felt quite homely and the air was filled with the aroma of delectable momo.

Explain how was your experience

I had planned to order the most highly recommended type of momo at the place which was the mutton momo. However, I ended up ordering a full plate of chicken momo as well which I wasn’t able to finish. I must admit, it lived up to its hype. The momos were incredible and super juicy. They were also reasonably priced considering the taste and size of the momo. I plan on visiting the place again with my friends very soon.

I do spend a lot of time on social media even though I know it is not a great habit essentially since it affects my sleep majorly. I do hope to curtail this.

I feel social media can be a great way to observe and become better at communication by being more social without feeling the pressure one can while being in front of a person. However, these days, this is doing more harm than good as it has increased scams by a huge margin lately due to fake messages online.

I think every age group is drawn to social media. From kids to the elderly populace, everyone consumes social media, just different categories of it. While kids watch child influencers, adults watch adult content creators or content like stand-up comedy.

As I mentioned, there are more scams these days due to social media. Another major drawback is that it is easier to sell a lie or spread gossip because of social media because no one does any fact-checking and just consumes whatever they come across without questioning the authenticity of the content.

I prefer real-life friends because there is no way of knowing whether a person online is real or if it's someone using a fake account to talk to you. Social media is also filled with a lot of show off and braggy lifestyle by people which could be far from reality so it’s harder to have trustworthy bonds online.
