What is the Format of the IELTS Exam?

IELTS is a completely English language proficiency test. It comprises of four modules – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Listening, Reading and Writing exam is conducted on the same day whereas Speaking test is conducted altogether on a different day either.

one week prior to the main exam or one week after that. The candidate has to choose from 2 modules – IELTS Academic or IELTS General. Listening test in IELTS comprises of four sections which are conversation, speech, discussion and lectures respectively. The candidate is required to solve 40 ques and there is no negative marking.

Reading test in IELTS comprises of three sections and 40 ques where each section has 12- 14 questions each which have to be solved in 60 minutes. Writing module has two tasks which have to be solved in 60 minutes. There are different scoring parameters like Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Grammatical Range and Lexical Range on the basis of which the candidate is marked in the IELTS Writing exam.

Speaking module comprises of 3 rounds which are Introduction round, Cue Card round and Discussion round or Follow up round.
