Who is this person?
Recently I attended a party where I was introduced to a person who is primarily a civil engineer by profession and is also a prolific writer.

Why was the conversation interesting?
At first we were all sitting in a group and exchanged pleasantries. Soon the conversation veered into language, culture and traditions. Some of the members contributed to the conversation but Mr. Adhicary threw light on aspects of the history of language and the changing trends which was fascinating. I was totally amazed by the indepth knowledge he had about the birth of language and how it has evolved over the years. I was unaware about so many facets of this subject, for example how dialects of the same language is different every 500 km and how at present many of these are slowly facing extinction.

What makes a conversation interesting ?
In most parties people usually keep conversing on general topics. It is only rarely that a conversation veers into such interesting subjects that leaves one enriched. This is one party I thoroughly enjoyed especially owing to the long conversation I had with Mr. Adhicary. He has also recently written a book on this subject and it is an amazing read.

What was the party about? & Who was the person?

I describe myself as an ambivert person, I am shy most of the times but can become outspoken sometimes. I rarely start conversations randomly with someone, but I met someone who was just like me at my school annual function, he was from 11th grade and I was just promoted to class 12th. At the annual function I was going to get a trophy for my academic achievements, and while I was sitting on the chair I found a person who was there amongst the organizers, he was done with his duty and sat beside me.

What did you talk about?

I did not speak for a moment, but after some time I said Hi! And asked his name to which he replied ‘Arnav’, and then we had non-stop conversation for about two hours. We discussed every issue from politics, student council elections, to academics, future plans, also I gave him some tips to get a good score.

Explain why you enjoyed talking with him/her.

I enjoyed talking with him because he was as straightforward as me, bold, and honest. He first listened to me and then countered me, which made the chat very engaging. I personally like people who are good listeners.

How did you feel?

I was getting bored in the beginning because none of my friends were present that day, and I wanted someone whom I could spend time with. And on that day I made a new friend, and also the first one who was from a younger class, otherwise I used to keep myself restricted to my classmates only, but Arnav redefined friendship for me, that is, for friendship it is not necessary that we agree on every issue, but we can also have disagreements in a supportive way.
