Who was the person ?
At every stage of life we are exposed to competitions, be it in school, college or as a part of co-curricular activities. While many have inherent talents and Excel at such competitions, some are lackadaisical in their approach and often take part reluctantly. I know of a person, who happens to be my school mate who had a knack for arts and crafts but never had a serious approach towards it. She would take part in it only to stay away from regular class at school.
What made the competition a difficult one ?
With time she realized that with proper training and practice she can build it into a proper career. As she already had an inherent quality, she quickly improved her skills with minimal guidance. Soon, she won several accolades for the art pieces she showcased. Her talent earned her much appreciation and awards as well.
However, to take it to the next level she had to do win a competition on a much bigger platform. Although she was apprehensive at first but she decided to participate in an international competition to be held in London. This competition was a particularly difficult one as participants from all over the world were competing for scholarships in France. With months of preparation and rigorous practice she managed a place in the top fifty. It was an impossible feat and most of us had little hope that she would succeed.
Why was it an important milestone ?
With the help of this scholarship she has been able to apprentice with prominent artists over a two-period and is now working closely with top museums to restore renowned old art pieces and murals . Other than her regular work, at times, she is also invited as guest lecturer both at state and private universities to share her valuable inputs. Winning that particular competition completely changed the course of her life.

What did they do to prepare?
Recently I talked to an old friend who took part in a debate competition for the school. He had to stay awake for two nights straight to gather enough information and prepare the speech he would deliver for the contest. He had to take help from me in order to organize the information he had gathered, and looking at the sheer amount of information he had given me, highlighted how much he had worked in order to collect it all.
Did they deserve to win?
Yes, he did deserve to win the competition as he had prepared the most out of all the other competitors. He gave out the speech with absolute confidence and clarity, he presented the information in a way that made it easy to understand for everyone present.
How did you feel?
I felt absolutely ecstatic when he returned and it was announced that he had won first place in the contest. I had seen how hard he worked for the victory and his expression when he was honored in front of the entire school made it worth it for him.
