I once made a complaint about a waiter at small mom and pop diner, normally this would be seen as something rude, they usually have a tough day and making it even worse by complaining about nonsense was just bad behavior, but this time I was with a friend who has severe allergy to peanuts, he can’t even be in the same room as them, we ordered our food and this waiter forgot to tell the chef about the allergy even though we told him to convey this many times, when the food came, we didn’t notice that it had crushed peanuts in it and he just ate it, he had almost died that day and if it wasn’t for medics arriving when they did I would have lost a very close friend.

Whom you complained to?

I complained to the owners and they profusely apologize, even covering the medical bill for him. He was fired on the spot, and this would go on his record, I don’t think he is ever going to work anywhere food related ever again.

When did it happen?

This incident occurred about half a year ago, my friend has made a full recovery since and has also developed a fear of eating out, that might take some time to heal.

I frequently raise my voice against injustices happening in front of me. Because I am the head of my school’s children safety club. I look into matters of bullying and other problems faced by the students at the school. A few months ago a young boy was being bullied by the seniors of our school. They were calling him by names, bullying him and abusing him. It was a big thing for him. He did not tell this to his parents as well.

 Whom you complained to? & When did it happen?

I went to the school principal and briefed her about the entire matter. She took immediate action against those students and suspended them from school. This incident happened when I was in my 11th grade.

What was the result, and why were you satisfied with the result and  how did you feel after complaining about it?

I was content with the action that Principal ma’am took against the children. It was then I realized the importance of communicating with younger children, because they might be shy or hesitant in sharing their problems with others.

Last summer I was on a holiday with my and had taken a flight from Delhi to Leh. While entering the aircraft I hurt my toe on the edge of the door. I had a deep cut and it was bleeding profusely. I immediately notified the airhostess and asked for some first-aid. The air hostesses were busy with the take off so I pressed the wound with a handkerchief and waited patiently till we were airborne. I again seeked assistance my pressing the overhead button. They assured me of assistance but did nothing. I somehow controlled the bleeding but I was in desperate need of some anti-septic and bandage. 

Describe the entire process ?

Through the entire flight I received no help from the flight attendants. Towards the end of the journey I asked for the complaint book and registered my complaint. To which effect, on landing I was contacted by the customer supervisor who took down further details of my harrowing experience on board and assured me of a satisfactory resolution. However, no further process was initiated and I had to follow up with several emails to different departments. 

Were you satisfied with the resolution ?

It was after 6 months of relentless pursuing that finally a resolution came through. The airline took cognizance of the pain I had to endure and the sheer apathy of the flight attendants. They sent a letter of apology along with a discount voucher to be availed in the next 6 months. I was satisfied with the resolution although it took a lot of effort on my part.
