What kind of a place is it?

One of the most beautiful historical places that I would like to talk about is the Jal Mahal. It is a royal piece of architecture with a phenomenal view.

What does it look like?

It is surrounded by water on all sides as it is built in between the Man Sagar lake which is 15 feet deep. It highlights the historical glory of the kings living in the state and their royal standard of living. It has 4 octagonal shaped umbrellas in its four corners and this makes it look even more amazing.

Where is it?

Jalmahal is situated in the pink city: Jaipur of my country and I am absolutely in love with the location and sightseeing it offers. The hills surrounding the area, to its northeast, are the Aravalli hill range and the Kanak Vrindavan Valley, which adds to the Jal Mahal’s positivity. Currently, there is a lot of restoration work going on in the palace and a new terrace is being created on the roof of the palace which would look the same like it was in the history.

How is it related to history?

It is a masterpiece of architecture that showcases the rich culture of royal Rajasthan kings and the kind of life they enjoyed. Its legacy is a mark of the enriched beauty of the olden days and the way people in the kingdoms lived a lavish life. The semi-open domes and the cenotaphs erected over the cremation platforms are of some of the old rulers of Jaipur. They are built in honor to the late kings and have impressive marble carvings.

What kind of place it is ?

While India, especially Delhi has a lot of places of historical importance however, Qutab Minar is an iconic structure that is visible from the air as one descends in Delhi. It is a tall minaret in red sandstone; a UNESCO world heritage site built between 1199 and 1220.

Where it is ?

Situated in the old part of Delhi the Qutab Minar is built inside a courtyard surrounded by carved columns which are ruins from Hindu and Jain temples. There are lush green grounds around the monument. This site is open to visitors all through the day.

What does it look like and what is the significance of this place ?

It is a tall minaret in red and grey sandstone with a height of about 72.5 metres. It was built by Qutub -ud-din-Aibak in 1192, the first Sultanate of Delhi and later completed by Iltutmish. All the storeys are surrounded by a projected balcony encircling the minar supported by stone brackets.

The word ‘Qutab’ means victory and it was built by Muslim rulers to commemorate their victory over the Rajput rulers of Delhi. It also served as a tower from where calls of prayers were arranged. Also the inside courtyard has an iron pillar which has not rusted through the centuries.
