Last summer I went for a short stay in my hometown. I was there for about 15 days. During my stay I spent time with my family and visited some of my friends who are still back there. On a Saturday afternoon, I was visiting the club when I thought I saw a familiar face cross by. To make sure I crossed the lawn to the parking area when a voice called from behind. It was my friend from school, Hazel, whom I had not met for a very long time !
Why were you surprised?
Hazel and I had lost touch over the years so it was surprising to cross paths with her so randomly but I was also overjoyed to see her after such a long time. She now lives in the UK and she too was visiting her parents. When we both were in high school we became friends and always sat together in class. She was also my partner in sporting events and in many other class activities including the science project we did together.
What did you talk about?
We had a lot to catch up on, so we sat on the outdoor lawn and kept chatting for a good two hours. As we shared details of our lives since we left our hometown, I felt as though the years in between melted away. She was always a bubbly and lively person and I had always enjoyed her company, so that afternoon too was a memorable one. Later we went shopping and I bought a small jewellery box for her.

Last weekend, I was at a mall, returning some clothes I had bought, when I suddenly saw someone that looked like a long-lost friend. While I wanted to see if it was her, I decided to ignore the feeling and didn’t reach out to that person. But she decided to do the opposite and immediately came up to me. That’s when I realized it was in fact Renu. She was my colleague ten years ago, but we bonded over our shared interest in films and became good friends.

I was astonished to see her there because she always stayed away from malls. That’s why, I was certain it might not even be Renu when I saw her. She told me that she has also become a mall shopper now because her husband only shops at malls. We decided to grab a cup of tea and catch up. It had been almost five years since we met because we simply lost touch after we switched jobs. We spoke about our families, our new jobs, and discussed films at length. For over an hour, we ended up talking about a blockbuster Bollywood film from last year called Dhurandar because we both loved action films and admired Ranveer Singh’s acting. After all our talks, since we had a rush of excitement within us after discussing Dhurandar’s grandeur, we decided to relive our old days and instantly booked tickets to its second part. It was an amazing experience, and we both enjoyed watching the film immensely because it had greater cinematography, action, and acting from the first part. It felt great to watch the film with one of my best film buddies from so many years ago. After the film, we decided to meet again to watch all such exciting new films together.
